Inês Araújo and Mariana Barbosa propose a short film on a Vila do Conde myth as part of their Residência Solar 2026

With the Convent of Santa Clara as its setting, the outcome of the residency could be seen at Solar between December 2027 and January 2028
Inês Araújo grew up hearing her family tell how the nuns of the Vila do Conde convent used an underground tunnel to meet for forbidden romantic encounters in a small stone house, now in ruins. As a child, she never doubted the story.
That certainty is where the research begins: in an age of fleeting information, where does myth take hold? And if we believe a non-factual narrative, does it become real?
To develop the proposal, Inês invited Mariana Pontes Barbosa, a performer from the region, who will work with her on the dramaturgy and may embody one of the film's characters. The artists propose gathering local testimonies about the convent and its nuns who, according to the legend, broke free from the dogmas of their time. In the gallery, the idea is to create a fictional environment that sustains the story as an archive, with photographs, excerpts and audio recordings.
Inês Araújo Ferreira (Porto, 1997) holds a degree in Multimedia from FBAUP and a master's in Cinema from ESTC. She was artistic director of The Lab.Yrinth, developing projects collaboratively with local artists. In 2024, she co-directed the short film “Para lá das cinco e meia” with Eduardo Brito, as part of Curtas Vila do Conde's Educational Service.
