Solar launches program to support Portuguese artists
To support local artistic creation, Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery is launching an open call for the development of projects under an artist residency program at Vila do Conde.
Following the path established by the CAVE project, which has been supporting emerging Portuguese artists, Solar seeks to encourage the sustained, continuous, and coherent development of new artistic works through residencies.
This initiative is open to individual artists who wish to develop original artistic content in the fields of image, sound, interactivity, or at the intersection of these disciplines. Through this open call, Solar is looking for projects to be developed in residence on dates to be confirmed. The resulting works will later be presented to the public in the form of an installation/exhibition at Solar between December 2026 and January 2027.
Each selected project will receive financial support of €2000 (VAT included) as an artist's fee. This amount may, at the artist’s discretion, also cover the acquisition of materials, equipment, and services necessary for the execution of the work, whether technical, construction-related, or otherwise.
The applications, which should be submited using this form, must include:
a description of a possible artistic proposal,
a description of the logistical, technical, and production requirements,
a biography and portfolio of the author(s),
and a statement of commitment to developing the project at Solar.
The application deadline is November 3rd, and the selected project will be announced on November 24th. The jury will be composed of the Artistic Board of Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery, along with invited external members. For more information, please see our regulations or contact us at solar@curtas.pt or +351 252 138 191.
