NO INFERNO ÀS 9

Sara Graça, Portugal, 2021
Various materials, video projection, sound.
NO INFERNO ÀS 9 is a set of new works by Sara Graça. In this project for CAVE, the artist crosses the dimensions of sculpture and drawing with those of video projection and sound. In an attitude of technical resourcefulness, Sara Graça builds a moment that can be compared to a film scene. It is about four or five characters that coexist between the exterior and the interior of what seems to be a club called hell.
Similarly to "Rat and Calendars" (Seismograph, 2020) or "OK Vámonos!" (ARCOmadrid 2021), everything that occupies space here, assuming scales larger than the artist's own body, is easily disassembled and transported in a cape like a drawing-cover. This transformation of what is physically enveloping into a portable object ends up being, in itself, an assumed approach to the world of images and imagination, or to the cinematographic condition itself.
Also through sound, Sara Graça shows us a place of experimentation and vulnerability in dialogue, in her own voice, in materials lent by a musician friend or in recordings made in urban space.
This is how, in this set, hell becomes a social and emotional place, trying to get closer to an image dreamt by the artist: a morning event, with speakers and communal intentions, in a buried space.
to be a club called hell.
