In partnership with Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival, a performative lecture featuring filmmaker and artist Miranda Pennel will take place on Friday, July 24th, 2026, at the Vila do Conde Municipal Theater.

As part of a retrospective entirely dedicated to the filmmaker, this presentation draws on the artist’s experiences as a dancer and filmmaker to reflect on belief, doubt, power, and possession in cinema and through cinema. Combining a lecture, performance, and film screening, Miranda Pennell explores the relationships between the body, the image, and the imagination, questioning the powers of presence and absence on screen, as well as the mechanisms of projection—both psychic and cinematic. The program is complemented by a selection of films curated by the artist, a guided tour of the exhibition, and a conversation open to the public, delving deeper into the issues that run through her artistic practice.
