The 21st edition of ANIMAR opens on March 7th 2026 with a programme entirely devoted to animated cinema. As in previous editions, Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery highlights some of the most important recent Portuguese productions: “Because Today is Saturday", by Alice Eça Guimarães; “Percebes”, by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves; “Dog Alone", by Marta Reis Andrade; and “Amarelo Banana”, by Alexandre Sousa.

Presented as an installation, the exhibition runs alongside the films and features life-size recreations, interactive devices and experimental environments that invite visitors into each work’s universe. It also reveals the creative process behind the films, displaying the materials and objects that shaped their conception.

Spread across three rooms, the exhibition includes objects from CLIA Anilupa — the animation studio of the Associação de Ludotecas do Porto, active for 35 years — enabling visitors to explore optical toys and historical devices related to the moving image, and to understand the technical principles and visual illusions that underpin cinema.
